Breitling's Navitimer. an iconic pilot's chronograph. was created in 1952 when Willy Breitling designed a wristwatch with a circular slide rule. allowing pilots to compute necessary flight data. In 1954. the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) christened this timepiece the “navigation timer?or Navitimer and named it the official timepiece of the world's largest pilot's club. AOPA. which included the majority of US aviators.
As the renowned pilot's watch during the prime of civil aviation. airline captains and aircraft aficionados were ensnared by the Navitimer. It even transcended to space with astronaut Scott Carpenter in 1962. Celebrities such as Miles Davis and Serge Gainsbourg were also devoted to the watch's powerful aesthetic. which showed that it provided both style and practicality.
This edition of the Navitimer features modern updates to the classic 70 year-old tiers. It sports a flattened slide rule and domed crystal for a sleeker look. with alternating brushed and polished metal elements. Furthermore. new shades of blue. green and copper redefine this timepiece. and the AOPA wings moved back to 12 o'clock to evoke nostalgia.
For 70 years. Breitling's original pilot's watch has been beloved by aviators and tastemakers in equal measure. Worn by astronauts in space and the biggest stars on earth. it is Breitling's most iconic timepiece and one of the most recognizable watches of all time.
